Are you recruitable? Let's find out.

“I learned what my weaknesses were, and I went out the next day to turn those weaknesses into strengths.” ~ Larry Bird

Hey Reader!

Am I actually recruitable?

If you’re serious about playing in college, I’m guessing that question lives in the back of your mind pretty much all the time. And it should. There are way more good high school players all over the world than there are roster spots.

But it’s tricky. “Recruitable” isn’t just about how many points you score or how athletic you are. College coaches are looking at so much more: your grades, your habits, your motor, your body language, how you respond to coaching, how you defend, how you treat teammates… Most players only really focus on a few of those.

A while back, we put out a free, printable 360 self-assessment you could fill out on your own. Almost 1,000 of you have downloaded it! That told us something important: players (and a lot of parents and coaches) don’t just want more drills, they want a real way to see where they actually stand.

So we took that idea and built it out into our 360° Player Assessment. (Yes, I’m selling this. I truly believe it will help you if you're in 9th to post-grad, whether you want to play in college or not.)

It’s not a fill-out-in-5-minutes quiz. The assessment is an online, 13-part, interactive deep dive into your game and who you are as a player. It takes around 20–30 minutes if you’re not just clicking through. Basketball is simple. Getting recruited is complicated. So we wanted to go as in-depth as possible without overwhelming you!

I actually went through the whole thing as if I were an 11th grader again. Honestly, it was a chance to relive some of the glory days. I filled it out not as a pro trying to “ace” it, but as high school me: no offers, a lot of question marks, and a big dream. The personalized report I got at the end didn’t just tell me “you’re good” or “you’re bad.” It showed me where I’d stand out, where I’d blend in, and what would hold me back from getting recruited if I didn’t change. It gave specific feedback and action steps on academics, mindset, character, offense, defense, effort, and more.

We're not promising this assessment will get you recruited. It's not THAT good. It doesn’t email coaches or tell you exactly what to say to them. What it does do is show you the truth about what you can control: your grades, your habits, your effort, your approach, and your skills on both ends of the floor. A lot of those things don’t require crazy athleticism or hours and hours more in the gym, but they do require intention and honesty.

We’re making the full 360 Player Assessment available at the introductory price of just $9.99. If you decide to take it, don’t treat it like a test you’re trying to pass. Treat it like film on your entire game and mindset! Answer like you really want to know: “Am I recruitable right now… and if not yet, what needs to change?”

3 Hacks From Me

Hack 1: Lock in off the court

One of the things we cover in the assessment is school. Your academics. When Colgate began recruiting me, the first question Coach Klatsky asked me was, “What are your grades?” The classroom is a huge separator, especially at the D3 level.

Hack 2: Do everything in your control well... all the time

Making shots is not in your control. Scoring points is not in your control. Playing time is not in your control. You know what's in your control? Well, in our assessment, we go into everything else you can be doing to really stand out in the recruiting process.

Hack 3: Get your coach/parent to fill it out too!

Let’s be honest, we are all a little biased about our own game. So, get a parent, coach or trainer to fill out the assessment about you! This will give you a second, honest opinion. It might be the wakeup call you need!

2 Questions for Growth

  1. Do you actually know what you’re strengths and weaknesses are? How deeply have you thought about them?
  2. What’s one uncomfortable truth about my habits (on the court or in the classroom) that I’ve been ignoring… and what am I going to do about it this week?

“I usually just kind of get triggered by something, and then I don't want to get punked out there just because I'm a rookie. So, I try to hold my own... it's just kind of the competitiveness in me.” ~ Olivia Miles Hey Reader! You can have a great basketball IQ and still not be able to use it. You can see the pass before everyone else does, but if you can’t keep your dribble alive and your eyes up long enough to make it, it doesn’t matter. You can know the defender is leaning one way, but if...

Tucker Richardson breaking down game film

“When knuckleheads at 14 years old think they know it all, but you can prove on film that you weren’t playing help defense. Film doesn’t lie, and that’s the best thing that’s ever been given me.” ~ Rajon Rondo Hey Reader! Do you actually know what you look like on the court? And no, I’m not talking about the color of your Kobes. I’m talking about your game. It’s hard to remember the little details of how you actually played until you go back and watch the film. Or have someone like me break...

You're not going to lose an arm if you turn the ball over in a close game. You definitely won't starve because your man scored a backdoor layup. The real worst-case scenario is looking back a few years from now and realizing you spent your...
